Cow and Calf Protection:
The recent
success of cow and calf caribou
protection in the Wrangells
should be followed for moose.
The pregnant cows were fenced in
a large area where they were
allowed to calve while being
protected. With an estimated 56%
of Alaska’s moose in a state of
decline and 10% or less
recruitment of moose from calves
to adults in many areas,
something must be done to turn
this around. |
