Road
and Railroad Protection:
The AMF is already well underway
on this particular program. The
Alaska Railroad has experienced
14’+ of fallen snow within their
corridor in 2004/2005 that has
resulted in unacceptable losses
of moose to trains. We are
preparing to work with the
National Guard for winter trail
creation and State forestry for
major future habitat enhancement
projects away from the tracks.
We have approached DOT to move
Federal Highway safety dollars
to fix the known moose/ vehicle
collision corridors. Over 1,300
collisions at over $18,000,000
in property damage alone
occurred during the winter of
2003. |
